The Space Song Foundation is a non-profit started by visionary artists and scientists to design and fabricate technology that supports long-range space missions, while promoting long-term thinking at the intersection of art, science, and design. The team is co-led by artist Julia Christensen (Eva and John Young-Hunter Professor of Studio Art at Oberlin College), Steve Matousek (NASA/Jet Propulsion Lab’s Advanced Studies Manager and Mars Exploration Program), Dr. Alessandra Babuscia (Telecommunications engineer at NASA/JPL), Joel Ferree, (Director of LACMA's Art + Tech Lab), Judy Lai-Norling (COO of Carbon Mapper), Roger Klemm (Mission Software Engineer at NASA/JPL), and Tom Hall (artist and developer at Cycling 74/Max/MSP).
While the Space Song website is under construction, you can read about their primary project, The Tree of Life, on their Kickstarter page. You can read about them in Nautilus Magazine, Hyperallergic, and Places Journal. The LACMA Art & Tech Lab has produced several videos about the project, which can be seen on Christensen's project page on the LACMA website.
Please check back later for a more medi-rich experience. In the meantime, you can contact the Space Song Foundation via email.
